Developing the Role of the Clinical Academic Researcher in the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions

To give people who use the NHS the best possible care and treatment, our clinical researchers need to be given the tools they need to develop innovative, world-class care and treatment. That is why £4 billion has been invested in Research and Development which includes up to £800 million available for translational research. This investment is vital to achieving the goal of making the NHS a world-leading healthcare system. While initially focusing on nurses and midwives, the findings and recommendations in this report were felt to be equally applicable to the allied health professions. A multi-professional approach to the training programme was adopted and will be preserved going forward.
