The North West is home to a variety of world-class research infrastructure and expertise. However, there was not always comprehensive information available regarding the excellent facilities we have in the region to promote health related research and development.
The NHS R&D North West team therefore commissioned a study to understand our strengths and weaknesses regarding our research infrastructure and to analyse how to improve the current situation.
The study which followed aimed to create a holistic picture by analysing the health research in the entire North West using different perspectives. The two approaches which were mainly used in the study were: to analyse the research facilities based on different phases of the innovation pathway, such as Early Phase, Later Phase and Adoption & Diffusion; and to analyse the research facilities based on different research areas which are mostly the research strengths/focus areas of North West.
