APPOINTMENT OF CHIEF EXECUTIVE (DESIGNATE)

NHS Research and Development North West seeks a new Chief Executive (part-time) to advance the impact of a small team of strategic leaders and facilitators in the field of Research and Innovation. After some years of inspirational and creative leadership, our current post holder wishes to step away, with a managed handover of his responsibilities, knowledge and networks, to a Chief Exec Designate. Much work has gone in to stabilising the organisation within the changing environment of the NHS.  But there is more to be done and the new appointee will have the responsibility and scope to build a sustainable organisation for the future, responding to new challenges. We envisage that the Chief Exec Designate will be ready to fly in the substantive role after a few months.

Our organisation sits within the NHS and works across multiple academic and health institutions to stimulate and support the health research community by building opportunity, capacity and capability. This key priority promotes clinical excellence, evidence-based practice, positive research and innovation cultures and talent management. It is part of a critical pathway that enhances the quality of patient and healthcare services and engages and develops the workforce to improve health outcomes and the experience of service users.

Formal selection for this appointment will take place from early September. We would like to encourage interested individuals to come forward now to find out more and to participate in informal discussions with the current post-holder, Dr Stuart Eglin. This process will be managed online and will commence after the 2nd August. You can find out more about us here: https://research.northwest.nhs.uk/

Interested individuals can express their interest now and are asked in the first instance to send a brief note and CV to joanne.simpson@researchnorthwest.nhs.uk  We will acknowledge receipt from 2nd August so please contact us if you haven’t received confirmation after that date.

Who are we looking for? An established leader with the intellect and ability to perform credibly in the NHS, University and other settings. Our focus is on transferable skills and personal attributes not necessarily experience within the R&D sector. You’ll share our values and demonstrate a self-awareness that underpins your ability to manage yourself and others, including an array of wider relationships, with integrity. Your experience of strategic partnership working, collaborative endeavours and building relationships will mean you have the know-how to create a shared vision of the future and then to set the direction and strategy to deliver it. Defining clear outcomes, goals and measures will be part of your critical evaluation and performance management skills. You’ll enable creative and innovative solutions whilst remaining grounded by evident financial savvy and the business sense that ensures not only clear and aligned purpose but finds the sources of investment to secure it. The landscape that you will be working across is complex and it is likely that you’ll have some public sector background; management experience in the NHS or Social Care setting may be an advantage.

This role is part time, presently 3 days per week, and would suit either an experienced CEO looking for a new lease of life and a different kind of challenge, or an innovative and experienced senior manager who is ready for a high-profile leadership opportunity with the freedom to work part time. Remuneration will be pro rata to a full-time salary of circa 95K for the right candidate.
